I have had a go at building all sorts of components for my models over the years, from the hulls and running gear to the smallest fittings. Some things have been successful first time and others have taken some trial and error before getting an acceptable result. I have found that many hobby shops do not cater very well for scale model ships so getting appropriate fittings and bits and pieces has been almost impossible at times.
I learned early on that I could produce acceptable results for most fittings by scratch building my own. When I needed multiple of the same item I found that I could cast most simple fittings without too much trouble. This approach of scratch building everything is often very time consuming but it is also very satisfying.
The links at the top of this page will take you to pages that show the sorts of things that I have had a go at. These pages are not designed to go into any great detail but rather to give an overview and hopefully generate some ideas to build on. As I said on the home page, what works for me may not work for everyone else.
